Types of Hydraulic Cranes
One of the most common cranes in the construction industry is hydraulic cranes. They are utilized to build everything from freeway overpasses and roadways to buildings and skyscrapers.
There is a large variety of crane units, sizes and styles available on the market. There are many different types in order to serve a variety of different reasons within the business. Choosing the best type of crane is vital for making sure that the material can be moved efficiently and safely to the location it needs to get to in order for the construction process to commence.
Truck Cranes
Normally, truck cranes have 2 different cabs. One cab is for controlling the crane and the other is for driving the truck when the unit is in transport mode. These cranes are really useful for building locations where a crane is required in many different locations for the duration of the build. This is due to the fact that the crane is capable of being easily driven from one location to another.
Moreover, the cranes are able to be transported to various construction sites on the road because they can drive themselves and this eliminates the need for extra transport vehicles. Being able to travel on their own greatly reduces transport costs at the end of the day.
One drawback of a truck crane is that it is not stable enough sitting on tires alone in order to be able to lift the major loads that a hydraulic crane can handle. Hence, to be able to fix this problem, outriggers could be extended from the deck. The outriggers use hydraulic pressure to be able to lift the truck slightly off of the ground, making it balanced and stable.
Crawler-Mounted Cranes
The crawler crane is unique in that it has huge tracks on the base of the crane. These massive tracks are really like backhoes and bulldozers. The tracks allow the crane to successfully move around a construction locations.
