Aisle Types
Lift trucks are classified due to the types of aisles they have been designed to operate in. Wide Aisle and Narrow Aisle lift trucks are designed to turn in the aisle, while Very Narrow Aisle trucks really don't turn within the aisle. There are certain aisle widths to take into account with various models.
Very Narrow Aisle or VNA trucks operate in less than 6 feet places and usually use certain guidance systems such as wire, optical or rail systems in order to travel within the aisles. Some different models of VNA trucks include Turret Trucks, Swing Masts and Order Selectors. These are common models in compact retail spaces and in some storage and warehouse situations.
Narrow Aisle or NA trucks are able to operate within aisles which are 8 feet to 10 feet. Usually these are stand-up models like Reach Trucks. They are usually used in storage facilities and warehouses.
The wide aisle forklift is designed to work in aisles more than 8 feet to 10 feet.
Stand-Up Ergonomics
The "Ergomat" padding on stand-up units provide padding on a sloped floorboard. These features are designed to lessen operator fatigue by absorbing vibration. The compartment for the operator is large and has an 8" low step height which helps lessen overall body fatigue by easing frequent exit and entry. The unit includes polyurethane steer tires to absorb shocks and vibration caused by uneven floor in order to allow smooth traveling. For additional comfort, there is a cushioned armrest and floor mat along with a backrest designed to help keep drivers comfortable and thus more productive while limiting fatigue.
