Lift Truck Parts in More Detail
There are many components that make up a forklift. The forklifts major components include the frame of the truck, the engine parts, the overhead guard, the tilt cylinders and the wheels. Moreover, a lift truck has different kinds of attachments. All the components that make up a lift truck are of equal importance as they work together to make the equipment's functions possible. The subsequent paragraphs describe in detail a few of the forklift parts.
The Overhead Guard - this guard forms the lift truck's metal roof. It sits above the cab area and protects the machine operator while he or she is sitting and driving. The overhead guard makes sure that nothing falling from above onto the truck will injure the driver or damage the controls in the cab. The overhead guard is essential to the frame assembly on several models.
The Mast - the mast is a vertical assembly made of interlocking rails and mounted either to the front axle or the forklift frame. The mast provides lateral stability and allows the forks to move up and down. The interlocking rails can either have rollers or bushings as guides. There are two ways the mast could be operated: hydraulically by one or more hydraulic cylinders or chain operated with motive power provided by a hydraulic motor.
Lift Truck Carriage - The carriage is the part which the forks and various other attachments are mounted to. Actually, the carriage is directly connected to the hydraulic cylinder and is attached by chains. In order to enable the forks to be raised and lowered, the carriage may have either bushings or rollers to guide it in the interlocking mast rails.
Load Back Rest - a back rest is a metal rack that keeps a load from falling backwards when the carriage is raised to its full height. The back rest is either welded or bolted on to the carriage.
Forklift Attachments - a variety of attachments may be fixed to the front of the lift truck. The most common kind of attachment is forks. Furthermore, there are L-shaped members, rollers, rotators, roll clamps, pole handlers and so on. These different attachments are useful for transporting various types of loads.
